Mehndi, also known as henna, has a rich cultural history and is thought to have originated in ancient Egypt over 5,000 years ago. It then spread to the Indian subcontinent, the Middle East and North Africa via trade routes and cultural exchanges. In India, mehndi is of considerable cultural and traditional importance, particularly at weddings and festivals. It is applied to the hands and feet of brides as part of wedding rituals, symbolising beauty, auspiciousness and good luck. Mehndi is also applied during festivals such as Eid, Diwali and Karva Chauth, as well as on other celebratory occasions. Today, mehndi is not just a cultural tradition, but also a form of artistic expression, with intricate designs and patterns that reflect the artist’s creativity and skill.

The application's navigation is designed to provide inspiration for people working in the beauty industry. You can browse through a number of 4 categories : mehndi, hairdressing, nail art, and make-up. The site map of the current Mehndi Design is quite complex. A burger menu relates exclusively to the community aspect. The home page includes the 4 categories (mehndi, hair style, nail art and make up), each of which is divided into 2 buttons that link to either simple images or video tutorials. If you focus on the mehndi photos, a menu bar appears, allowing you to find the sub-category if you're looking for a more specific style.

I suggest a new site map, more linear and condensed. It includes the home page and the 4 beauty technique categories. The use of the menu bar has changed, as it appears at the start of the navigation to access each category. I wanted to give the application a more formal and elegant tone, in an editorial style. On the home page, you'll find a current tutorial for each category, which will vary according to the latest trends. Now for the visual part, I've kept the same nude tones to start with. I then drew up a new Mehndi design logo inspired by the 'raving' typography. The aim is to give an elegant, sophisticated look to enhance the professional aspect of the tutorials. My first image test was inconclusive, too desaturated. I gradually added more green in the compositions, creating an interesting contrast with the cream tones. I was very inspired by the creation of icons for the menu bar, so I started there. This allowed me to design a condensed logo for the splash screen. The colour palette was purposely large, as I added aqua green tones and a fiery red. I wanted to give the user interface an arty feeling, so I added brush textures to enhance the composition.

Before finding the style I wanted, I did 2 tests: A home page, which ended up being too condensed because it contained too much information. This made it look less elegant The second test was for a product page (the tutorial in this case). I was inspired by the 'Rituals' application, which gives the impression of a very luxurious and beautiful 'spa experience’. This challenge allowed me to give a more luxurious and arty look to an application, although I would have liked to create a category page and develop the community aspect.
